This is a guest post from my wife, LeeAnn. She is passionate about living intentionally and discipling our children to become life long followers of Jesus and is sharing resources for parents this Christmas.
Want to make Christmas REALLY meaningful this year?
If you are anything like me, the holiday season can quickly get overwhelming! With red and green showing up in stores before the ghosts and ghouls clearance items have left the shelves, we are shoved into the commercialism of everything Christmas.
In our hearts we know that Jesus is the reason for the season, but how do we live that out in front of our children in the days leading up to the annual celebration of Jesus’ birth when our world spins for days around candy, Santa, lights, decorations, Christmas trees, Elf on the Shelf, school parties, and more?!
If you are new to the concept of Advent, let me give a quick overview. In the Christian tradition, the Advent season is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Advent begins on Sunday, December 1st and is celebrated daily through Christmas Eve.
Since our hearts and minds are easily distracted by all the fanfare of the holidays, intentionally taking time daily to remember the true “why” behind all the festivities is key. The celebration of Advent does just that.
Intentionally setting aside time daily to focus on Jesus makes sure that on Christmas Eve when you’re setting out cookies for Santa and carrots for his reindeer and furiously assembling last minute Christmas gifts for the kids, that you have taken time to focus on the things that matter most to your family – the coming of Jesus in the world as a precious gift from our heavenly Father to redeem us from our broken selves and reconcile us back to a life forever with Him (Col. 1:19-22).
Isn’t that what we all want our children to remember at Christmas?
The truth about Jesus.
But if you have little ones at home, maybe you’re wondering just how to do this. How do you cut through all the clutter to shine the light of Jesus into their little hearts?
I’m excited to share with you an incredible e-book called Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience for Little Hands. It’s written by Amanda White (a children’s minister turned blogger) who shares awesome resources to impress God’s Word on our kids’ hearts at her site ohamanda.com.
Her heart with this e-book is to share practical tools to use during the Advent season so that when Christmas Eve comes at your house, your children will say, “the best present of all is Jesus!”
The resource is designed to be used with children ages PreK through Elementary school. Amanda explains that each day Truth in the Tinsel will lead you through a passage of scripture, a corresponding ornament craft and talking points for you and your kids.
It’s more than a devotion – it’s meditation & hands-on learning for kids.
It’s more than a craft book – it’s a memory-builder for your family.
It’s more than an e-book – it’s an experience and adventure in God’s word!
Each day you’ll read the Christmas story from the Bible, make an ornament to go along with the passage and talk about it with your kids. It includes printables, the words to say and simple tutorials. There’s even printable ornaments if you’re (like me) not the crafty type.
You can download the e-book and start preparing for Advent right away!
The Truth in the Tinsel eBook is $7.99, but we’ve been given a special link and the coupon code MOSAICLIFE will give you 20% off.
Ya’ll. Seriously. That’s less than the cost of a Chick-Fil-A value meal.
So this year, make it an intentional Christmas.
Focus on Jesus with your kids. It’s what really matters most!
